Vision & goals
Striving to bring benefit to all
The MMAS was established with the benefit of both the student and alumnus in mind. We aim to support and nurture a community of excellence at McGill University, for the betterment of humanity and all of God’s creation.
vision
Established in 2019 as a McGill Interest Group, the MMAS aims to provide an opportunity for McGill alumni to establish a reliable and vibrant network that can act as a source of strength, support and prosperity for McGill Muslim graduates and students, in perpetuity.
The MMAS serves all McGill students and alumni, with an emphasis on supporting their wholesome development in various aspects of their careers, spiritual paths, educational endeavors, religious practices, and mental and physical health through material and spiritual means.
goals
To provide Muslim students at McGill with access to the mentorship, expertise and skill-sets of well-established and professional McGill alumni on a long-term and sustained basis.
To support the establishment of a permanent Islamic center and prayer space for students on campus.
To support the provision of Muslim chaplaincy services for students on campus.
To build a base of benefactors and financial supporters for various projects, endowments, scholarships, homecoming and networking events that serve the Muslim community at McGill and the Greater Montreal area.
To establish a formal channel of communication between current and past McGill Muslim students and inform MMAS members of the achievements and challenges facing successive generations of McGill Muslim students.
To provide MMAS members with the opportunity to mentor, train and guide Muslim youth in their educational and career endeavors.
To provide career, social and networking opportunities to MMAS members with McGill alumni, the McGill Muslim student body and other communities.
To strengthen communal ties between members of the McGill and Canadian Muslim communities.
affiliations
As of May 2019, the MMAS is affiliated with the McGill Alumni Association (MAA). This will allow the MMAS to access tools and resources that can help its members better communicate with one another, organize events across Canada, the US and overseas, as well as have the MMAS events posted on the MAA official communication outlets.
We are excited about this new relationship and hope that it further propels the MMAS towards achieving its mission.
